New Features

Bricks Create

Two new vignette types have been added to the Bricks Create platform and are supported in the Brick Exchange platform when bricks are viewed. They are:

  • Clinical Reasoning vignette type

  • Matching question type

New Vignette Type - Clinical Reasoning

The clinical reasoning vignette type will be used in clinically oriented bricks to highlight parts of the clinical reasoning process which are important for the related brick text.

To add a Clinical Reasoning vignette to a brick, perform the following steps.

  1. Open the desired brick or create a new brick.

  2. Click the ‘+’ sign to add a new section, or, if you have the Bricks Create beta version enabled, type ‘/clinicalreasoning’ and click the ‘Enter’ key. The Clinical Reasoning vignette is added to the brick.

  1. Enter text and/or type ‘/bulletedlist’ to add a bulleted list, or type ‘/numberedlist’ to add a numbered list.

New Question Type – Matching

Bricks Create now includes a new active learning question type called 'matching'. The example provided below, featuring terms and definitions, is just for illustration purposes. This format can be adapted for various educational objectives to evaluate student understanding. For instance, you could create a column labeled 'Etiology' and pair it with a second column titled 'Early Clues to the Diagnosis' for matching.

To add a matching question type, perform the following steps.

  1. Open the desired brick or create a new brick.

  2. Click the ‘+’ sign to add a new section, or, if you have the Bricks Create beta version enabled, type ‘/question’ and a new question is displayed.

  3. Click the ‘Matching’ question type.

The following table describes the items on this active learning matching question type modal.

Viewing a Matching Active Learning Question

When viewing a brick on the Brick Exchange, a ‘matching’ active learning question type displays and functions as follows:

  • Drag and drop a definition to the corresponding term. Each term can only have one definition.

  • When the definition is matched with the correct term, a green check mark is displayed.

  • When the definition is matched with an incorrect term, a red ‘X’ is displayed.

  • When all terms are correctly matched, the explanation is displayed.

Note: Brick question answers are retained unless the content of the answers change when the brick is versioned.
